When the Red rises as it does every so often the waves will be lapping at this cache!
Morris has suffered many floods. The worst in memory are the 1897, 1950, 1979 and 1997 floods.
In the 1950 flood several cities did major fund-raising including Hamilton raising 100,000 and Calgary 108,000 which was huge funding at the time. A rally was held in Toronto to do 25,000 was raised in one night - huge money in the '50's. We continue to be thankful.
The dike protection kept both the '79 and '97 floods at bay but the Morris dike has several major weak areas - where the major highways enter Morris. There are also many gopher holes in the dike and amazingly these can weaken a dike in short order...Be careful not to turn an ankle.
