Hawk Rock is a family name for this formation. My wife waited
out
the family as we went to the top of Table Rock and observed a
large
Red-Tail Hawk and his mate at this rock.
On the Table Rock Trail. This rock is part of the northern part
of
the Table Rock and Rooster rock volcanic dike.
Sheer basalt cliffs line three sides of this rock, be sure to
go
along the trail until your GPSr says you are 100 ft or so away
from
the cache and you will see a faint trail going to the top.
You will be close at times as the trail approaches, but you
donn't
want climb straight up the cliff or scramble up a very steep
boulder field. Watch to the right of the trail as you make
your
assent for views of this series of cliffs and pinnacles.
Cache is a 50 caliber ammo can attached to a steel cable secured to
a three inch tree... the cache is dangling over the edge. Please
don't fall and do cover the cable so that it cannot be readily
seen. See spoiler picture.
