In the 1950's Drive-In Theaters were on the rise and in the 1980's
declining attendance forced many to close as I was told was the
fate of the Star Light Drive-In Theater in Kankakee, IL. This
Theater was a big hit and at one time had 2 screens going. People
would be lined up down the road to get in. They also had a
playground for the kids as well as the big metal speakers you had
to drive up to and hang on your window. (Oh and don't forget to
take it off the window before you leave!! ) I used to live right
across the field from the Theater and spent many nights there. For
more history on Drive-In Theaters go to
http://www.driveintheater.com/index.htm Currently the Starlight
Theater site is used for composting and yard waste management by
the city of Kankakee, but you can still see the original main
screen from the cache location. The Cache is a Cammo Match
Container and is easy to find. You should be able to drive right up
to the cache off the frontage road. Bring your own pencil. Please
make sure you cover it well as it is kind of in the open.
