This is a smallish but not micro container
(Thanks to DrMoo for the brilliant container idea!) hidden near a
great playground and very close to the McKenzie Marsh (on the south
side of St. John's SR).
Recommended parking is conveniently
located by a paved trail that leads to a delightful playground
immediately adjacent to the Marsh.
Since this cache is located in a prime
birding area, take the opportunity to see if you can find any
interesting birds before, during or after hunting for the cache.
Ideal birding times are early morning and later evening although
there are birds to be seen at any time of day. If you spot or hear
and positively identify any winged and feathered friends, please
list them in your log... we'll keep a list of birds spotted.
Unfortunately, if it's birding season, it's also mosquito season...
long pants and sleeves are recommended.
We're going to start the list with the
family of birds we found when we were scouting the site. Mama and
Papa Killdeer were doing their best to distract the nasty
two-legged predators from their two babies, both of them taking
turns doing “I've got a broken wing!” and herding the
young ones to safety. The family is still resident two weeks later
but the wee fledglings are grown to full size and flying under
their parents' watchful eyes. It's going to be your job to populate
the list with the usual and unusual birds that are frequent
inhabitants of this lovely wetland.
