A long hike to a spectacular area.
Lime Ridge is a 5.5km long open meadow on a prominent ridge in the Marble Range. Views of surrounding peaks and far off ranges are abundant, as are wildflowers and craggy limestone outcrops. This is a rewarding hike, but a long route from the Jesmond Road below. There are two approaches, but the recommended one is on the west end. The parking area is at km 19 from the turn off near Kelly Lake. Park off the side of the road near an old concrete foundation. The trail braids out a bit here and there in the bottom part, but the general objective is the creek drainage. Just follow Foundation Creek all the way up, looking for flagging tape and a trail which is distinct except for 3-4 places when you cross meadows. There is some recent deadfall to go around, but it is all manageable. At the top of the pass, the trail veers south up to the top of the ridge. It is 2.5-3 hours to get up on top of the ridge and a little less to get back down. This can be a dry hike, so carry lots of water. This is a cache for able hikers to a little known area. Prepare well and enjoy your hike. This hike was grandfathered into the Twenty Peaks series since that's where it belongs.
