Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the red trail at Round Valley Reservoir. It is a medium sized tupperware container with a log book, pencil and some goodies in it. To retrieve the cache and make your way back, it will be approximately a 1.20 mile loop. Trail is well defined, but be aware of steep hills to climb. Make sure to wear a good pair of hiking shoes.

We were one nator short tonight, so Stella and one nator decided to go hiking at Round Valley Reservoir (now that it's not being closed - thank goodness!). I realized there were not that many caches in the reservoir area, so I decided to place one while out hiking.

There are two reasons why the cache is named Turtle Walk. First, Stella came across a turtle in the middle of the trail path. She didn't know what to do, so she sniffed it and touched it with her paw. The poor turtle stuck his little head into his shell and very slowly walked across the path. I don't know how he saw where he was going, but he made it, with a little help from a leash.

Stella curiously watched the little guy make his way back into the brush and wanted to follow, but we had a mission to complete.

The second reason for the title of Turtle Walk is that we started out moving quite quickly until we hit some of the monster hills on this path. We were parched, so I reached for my water bottle and realized the bottle was in the car. Being the dedicated cachers we are, we decided to continue on without our water. By the time we reached our end point, I think the turtle we came across earlier could have beat us to the car. Next time, I will put a post-it note on myself or Stella to let me know to remember the water bottle.

Enjoy the hike, and remember to bring water. :)

During the time period of Memorial Day to Labor Day, there is a fee to enter the park. Five dollars during the week and ten dollars on the weekend. However, I went on a Thursday around five thirty p.m. and there was no fee. If you do not want to pay, I would suggest going on a week night. The park is open during this time period until eight o'clock.
