Polaris
Polaris is more commonly known as
the Northstar or the Pole Star, and is the brightest star in
the constellation Ursa Minor. It is very close to the north
celestial pole (42' away As of 2006), making it the current
northern pole star.
Polaris is 431.42 light-years from
Earth. Therefore the light you are seeing today was actually
emitted in 1577, or when Shakespeare was thirteen years
old.
Thanks to
Coolcat21 I have an
amazing replica of the Big Dipper(Ursa Major) on my GPS map.
This cache is in honor of
Big Dipper Series hidden at the Blackfoot Recreation
Area. The cache contains a FTF and 2TF prize but
more importantly contains a special item especially
forCoolcat21
. You may look at it but please leave it for
him.
Finding Polaris the cache:
Polaris,
the cache, is located along the Blackfoot trail as well. It is on
the North side of the trail about 5 steps off the trail.
Look for a log and tree and it's UPS. You can see it
from the trail.
The fun
way to find Polaris is to use only the pointer caches/stars and
walk along the Blackfoot trail untill your GPSr lines up the
stars. It is only a small window and a fun find.
If you
think that is too tough use the hint to calculate the exact
coords.
