Geocache Description:

This cache was placed as a part of the Great Eastlink Geocache Project. The Project involved 25 Geocaching Teams from the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne who combined their efforts in July 2008 to create the largest cache series in Australia in which each cache in the series is individually owned by one team.

GEGP will also feature an event "GEGP #0 - The Event" Our sincere thanks to Rabbitto for putting GEGP together.

No one can deny the terrific achievement Eastlink is. Congratulation too to the builder delivering the project ahead of time.

On the open day, King and Queen Solomon Jnr took 4 year old squire for a walk through the tunnels knowing that the infrastructure built today will be there to support him when he starts driving. We were impressed.

Many in the community were not happy campers with the pollies from both major political parties when told that tolls where here to stay for the foreseeable future. I would rather have the road than not.

The other week before Eastlink opened it took me over an hour to go from Dandenong to Doncaster - It will be great to see the time savings.

At the same time many are looking to the Government(s) for the next round of infrastructure initiatives to further extend our transport networks; our rail, road, and public transport. There is talk of another set of freeways to connect Eastlink the ring road, the Eastern freeway to the west. Can we afford it? Can we Not too! In the meantime despite the high cost of fuel (approaching $1.70) there seems now to be more traffic on the roads. Getting off the Eastern freeway at peak times is worse - more time in a traffic jam, more fuel consumed, greater cost, more frustration. So whether another road gets built or not – can we please have more public transport !
