The
Event
Come on down to Norton's Park between 12 Noon
and 2pm on Saturday 26th July and help celebrate the official grand
opening of the largest cache series in Australia in which every
cache in the series is owned by a different geocaching team. It is
a lunchtime event. The listed co-ordinates at Norton's Park is a
large undercover area. The park has numerous picnic tables,
electric bbqs, toilets and an expansive grassed area. (Feel free to
drop past earlier if you fancy helping to try and secure the
shelter
.
What is "The
Great Eastlink Geocache Project"?
The Great Eastlink Geocache Project will be
Australia's Largest Cache Series with each cache having an
individual owner. 25 Geocacher's of Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs
will each place a single cache in locations along the Eastlink
corridor. The caches span the entire length of the Eastlink
corridor and if completed in order from either end, will provide
all geocachers a personal guided tour of Melbourne's most long
awaited road system. Of course, none of the placed geocaches will
require the finder to stop on Eastlink in order to find the
cache.
What is on at the
event?
At the event itself, it's a great chance meet
and greet old friends and new. Pack a picnic lunch, swap tall tales
and enjoy the company of fellow geocachers. Witness the grand
opening of the Great Eastlink Geocache Project.
Stop
Press
Due to the passing this week of our good friend
and geocaching partner, Dave Kruger (aka dak from dak's Emu Mob),
there will be a short tribute in dak's honour during the
event.
Will there be an organised trip of all the
caches in the project?
No. The rest of the day is yours to
plan.
However - Note that the time and location of
the event not only in the middle of the day, but halfway along the
project too, with an equal number of caches north and south of the
event. This means that for those interested in completing the whole
series during the day, the opportunity is there to cache in the
morning, meet for lunch and cache away the afternoon. If you are
new to geocaching and would like to learn more about the sport, or
have always wanted the chance to team up, this is a great
opportunity.
Important Note: This is the last Toll Free
Day on Eastlink.
