This cache has been archived.

-allenite-: As there's been no response from the cache owner to my previous note, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

This is the first in a series of cahces I hope to do highlighting the history of Chester Township, Ottawa County Michigan where we live. The final stage is the location of the original Six Corners Inn. I believe the Post office was across the the road from the Inn.

Six Corners got its name from the fact that the stage coach line ran diagonally across the corner formed by the section line roads of 48th Avenue and Harding Street. Thus, the intersection had six corners. A stage stop was established at this site. Six Corners was located on the boarder between Chester Township, Ottawa County and Ravenna Township, Muskegon County.

The Six Corners Post Office opened February 21, 1855. Businesses that operated in the village included: blacksmith shop, feed mill, grocery store, hotel, millinery shop, saw mill, and stage line station. After the G. R. & I. railroad built a depot in Conklin in 1886 and a post office opened there in 1887, the stage route was discontinued and businesses moved to other locations. The section of the stage road that crossed at Six Corners was removed to make the intersection safer. The post office finally closed February 4, 1888.

The final stage is on private properety with permission from my Brother in Law. No need to wander on the lawn. Enjoy looking at the miniature horses, but don't try to feed them and do not touch the electric fence, it would hurt.
