Geocache Description:

This is another in a series of caches placed at film locations for the 1984 movie Country, starring Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard.

Easy drive by. Cache is a small magnetic container. Please pop the lid and make sure it gets put back on correctly. BYOP.

The cache is placed near the Family Inn restaurant and bar in Raymond, Iowa.

The filming of Country, the movie

After receiving bad news from the FmHA, Gil (Sam Shepard) seeks solace by turning to drink. He enters a bar (the Family Inn) and discovers Tom McMullen (Matt Clark) talking quietly with another man. Gil picks a fight with Tom, who storms out of the bar, leaving his companion behind. The other man turns out to be an auctioneer, Conrad Doan (played by himself), and Gil finally begins to face reality and sits down to discuss putting his farm up for auction to pay his debt.

Fairbank local, Dean French, played the bartender in this scene.

Conrad Doan as himself. This photo was taken during filming of the auction scene at the Ivy's. Conrad is still an active auctioneer in the area and continues to be involved in farm and estate sales.
