Geocache Description:

Cache is a camo waterproof match container. Bring your own pen/pencil.

Stevens Brook Trail winds through the town of Bridgton, following Stevens Brook from Highland Lake to Long Lake fairly faithfully except for some inaccessible spots. Most of the trail is in wooded areas although there are some sections which require hiking along busy streets. Since there were several caches already on or near the trail I decided to fill in some holes. Geocachers would then be able to log over a half dozen finds along the way if they walked the whole trail; for those in more of a hurry, segments of the trail with caches can be accessed at strategic spots near roadways and parking.

Start at Shorey Park at the corner of Main Street and Highland Road in Bridgton; parking is available. Maps of the entire trail are available from the Lakes Environmental Association. Before starting your trek, try your luck with the SHOREY PARK MICRO (courtesy of Katahdinbound). The trail starts at the steps just north of the bridge.

After a quarter mile you end up on Main Street. A small detour at this point will give you a shot at DALMATION #34 MAGGIE (courtesy of Katahdinbound).

The trail continues alongside the newly rebuilt Magic Lantern and behind DownEast Industries. Along this part of the trail, you can pick up ARE YOU STUMPED? The trail then follows Stevens Brook pretty faithfully until you have to pop out to Main Street again.

After some sidewalking along Main Street and Portland Road, the trail reenters the woods by the Citgo station. You may be able to find THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM before you hit Smith Street.

After emerging onto Smith Street, go around the corner onto Kansas Street. Off of Kansas Road there’s a quick loop into the woods on the right which you can skip, unless you want to pick up STEVENS BROOK TRAIL LOOP MICRO.

Exiting the loop and crossing the street gets you to the next leg of the trail. BLUEBERRY HILL CACHE (because there's lots of blueberries along this part of the trail) is along this trail, but ironically, there are no blueberries actually around the cache itself.

After you’ve come up to Power House Road, go for POWERHOUSE (courtesy of Team Kobi). At the end of the trail you are rewarded with a simple PLUMMER’S LANDING MICRO.

Word to the wise:: there is some poison ivy along the trail, and parts of the trail do get flooded during times of high water. Also, be careful on some of the busy streets especially if you’ve got the kids along.

GEOCACHER GEMS: I would like to make a list of geocacher characteristics on my profile page (I started off with one of my own when looking for a micro); please send me a message with some odd geocacher characteristic and if I like it I will add it to the list. Thanks!
