This is a letterbox hybrid. The above coordinates take you to the
starting location for the search.
The actual cache is a bit of a long walk
away.
It can be done as a letterbox or a cache depending on whether or
not you have a stamp. It is accessible by bike(recommended) or on
foot. Plan on riding/walking a mile or two to access the cache.
There is no convenient parking for the final location.
The posted coordinates will take you to a railroad bridge. You will
need to choose the lower of the two possible altitudes. Here
you’ll find a mural. At first the colors seem random, but if
you think about it for a while, you’ll notice a common theme
within each color. (blues = music, purple = transportation, etc.)
We’ll focus on the pink squares. First observe
Melville’s novel big fish story. From there, walk on and read
the title of Dicken’s classic work. (I'm sure Dickens based
his story on the towns of Lafayette & West Lafayette.) After
enjoying the mural, continue walking along the paved path in the
same direction as from Mellville to Dickens until you intersect a
sidewalk. Turn right and follow this sidewalk along the street
until the sidewalk no longer continues in the same cardinal
direction. (You will need to cross at least a couple of roads.
Carefully watch your little ones, please.) There is a grassy area
with trees here that is property that is open to the public during
the day. In the most prominent part of the grassy area, you will
meet Ellis. You will recognize him in that he is short, stocky, and
rather square. He is an honorable man. It will benefit you to make
your ac-Quaintance with him. Next greet Laura, Edna, Emma, and
Charles as you pass on your way. If you continue in this direction,
you will eventually see a path through the trees ahead that will
take you near to some water. Beside the water, if you stand on
Neenah and look Northeast, you will see a small group of trees
about 55 feet away. The letterbox/cache is hidden in the base of
the cluster just a few feet off the path. Please beware of muggles
nearby and open the cache in a discrete location. The container is
small. It contains a stamp pad, a stamp and a log to be shared by
letterboxers and stampless cachers. There is room for a few very
small trade items. The original contents are an army man, a turtle,
a carabiner, a set of shoelaces, a $ prize for caching FTF, and a $
prize for First-to-Stamp.
