During the early 20th century, Goldsmith Woodlands were a favorite local summer retreat. Bessie Goldsmith lived in a rustic cabin on a knoll overlooking Foster's Pond and collected rent from those who had cottages on her land. Stories about Bessie's somewhat eccentric behavior in her devotion to protecting her woodlands are legendary. The land is now cared for by AVIS (Andover Village Improvement Society) with funds given for maintenance out of Bessie's trust.
The container of the cache is small -- 3x5". After basking in the glory of a found cache, explore all the nooks and crannies of Bessie's Point! Continue up the hill for a fantastic view of Foster's Pond and a beautiful picnic site, just feet from the cache. If you are feeling adventurous, head west to Journey's End. It is well worth the extra hike.
Happy geocaching!
