Openshaw Park is a local community public park of approximately 5 hectares. It is located just over a mile outside of Bury town centre in an area historically known as Pimhole. The park was first opened as a public park in 1888.
Access
Access can be gained from four points on Rochdale Road - through the main entrance at the centre of the park, at St Thomas’ Church near the Renault garage and opposite the pelican crossing. Access can also be gained from Pimhole Road.
The park is fairly level throughout with well-maintained footways and is, therefore, accessible to people with disabilities and families with push-chairs.
Facilities include:
Crown green bowling pavilion and greens
Children's play area
2 multi-play ball zones, one flood-lit
2 flood-lit tennis courts
All-weather cricket wicket (pre-book with the Park Ranger)
The cache is a small blue containers containing log book pencil and small swaps
There are usually quite a few kids and dog walkers about so be careful not to be seen when locating the cache !!!
