Geocache Description:

Quite and forgotten location reserved for our early pioneers.

This is the first cache placement for Team_Powers. FTF = $2 bill. The terrain is easy but the short road to get to this location can be hard to spot. Finding the road may be as much fun as the geocache so we won't spoil that for you either.

For a bit of history, Almira S. was married to Rev. Daniel Platt and both died in 1867. We found Rev. Daniel Platt's (who's buried next to Almira) obituary online and it reads as follows:

Obituary of Daniel Platt

Appearing in the Thirty-Second Annual Meeting Of the Baptist Convention Of the State of Michigan.

Held with the First Baptist Church of Adrian October 11th, 12th, and 13th, 1867.

Rev. Daniel Platt died in Allegan, Michigan, September 18th, 1867, aged sixty-nine years. Bro. Platt was born in Renssalaer Village, Albany Co., NY., July 13th, 1798. He was baptized and united with the Baptist church in Union, Broome Co., NY, in 1812. He graduated from the Hamilton Literary and Theological Seminary, June 1st, 1825. He commenced preaching immediately afterwards, but was not ordained until January 27th, 1831. At that time he was ordained by a council convened with the Baptist church in Tioga, Tioga Co., Pennsylvania. He preached to different churches in the states of New York and Pennsylvania, until about the year 1843, when he moved to Northern Ohio. In 1846 he removed to Michigan and since then during, most of the time he has labored with different churches in Allegan County.

This last sickness was severe but short. The summons came suddenly, but found him prepared. The companion of his youth (Almira) with four children, survive him to mourn his loss.

Also...in searching the internet Almira's middle name was "Skinner".

[Notes: Daniel Platt was the son of Stephen Platt & Kezia Wickes Platt, who settled in Vestal Center, Broome County, NY. He married Almira Skinner, born in Hamilton, NY, Nov. 24, 1805 & died May 18, 1873 in Allegan Co., MI. They had the following children: Daniel Gano Platt, Daniel Platt, Mary Roxina Platt, Julia Caroline Platt, Festus Cone Platt, Almira S. Platt, Martha A. Platt, & Joel E. Platt.]
