Percival II: Le Presse-citron Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MainePublisher: All geocache placements must have a responsive owner. The cache owner must be able to respond to issues that come up and to submit an "owner maintenance" log to remove the "needs maintenance" icon.

In addition to the "needs maintenance" logs and DNF logs, Goundspeak also uses a Health Score algorithm. https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=713

In this case, Groundspeak has sent an email to the cache owner with no response. The cache owner did not respond to any of the cachers hoping to find the cache and did not respond to the reviewer note so the cache is now archived.

The cache location is now open for any Geocacher to place a new cache, including the original cache owner.

Geocache Description:

Squam Range Geocaches

Mt. Percival was my favorite hike as a child for one simple reason: the adventure of what my family called the Lemon Squeezer. It's not spelunking, but it sure is a cool boulder cave.

The old Mt. Percival cache having been irretrievably archived, I took the liberty of commandeering it. There's not a heck of a lot of swag in there, and no FTF prize, but it's clean, and there's still room in the log book. (If anyone has a logbook to spare, feel free to throw it in!)

The View from the Summit

My plan had been to move the cache to the inside of the cave, but I thought better of it when I got inside, realizing that some people (or dogs) might not enjoy getting squozen, and that muggles galore explore the inside of the cave on a daily basis.

SquamDog prepares to be squozen

After 6 miles of hiking however, I was too tired to climb back up the mountain, so I compromised and hid it smack dab in the middle of the trail less than a tenth of a mile down from the summit. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take care to cover the cache back up when you re-hide the ammo can. My hopes are that it will be one of those convenient "right in front of your face" type caches.

Percival

The shortest way to the cache is to park at the Mt. Percival trailhead and climb 1.8 miles, taking a left on the cave route toward the summit of Percival. You can also take the cliff route and come back around.

If you haven't done the Mt. Morgan Cache, though, I recommend doing a loop.

And then of course there are the hale and hearty among you who will dauntlessly forge on to Mont Squam before you're through.

The Squam Trail Guide, published by the Squam Lakes Association, is a great resource for this hike. For an on-line description of the Percival and Morgan Trails, you can click here (among many other places).
