Geocache Description:

The terrain rating is rated for those that cannot drive up the hill. It is a short walk on a gravel drive, but it is a steep climb.

I have always been intrigued by the existence of the Catholic Cemeteries in Land Between the Lakes.  Both are located on the main road from the Trace to Wranglers Campground.  Upon further research I found that many of the original Catholic settlers of "Between the Rivers" were German immigrants who moved to the area to work at the Iron Furnaces.  Another interesting piece of the puzzle of this area is the fact that the only church left standing is St. Steven's Catholic Church (a cache "Last One Standing" does exist nearby the church) in Northern LBL.  This church was left standing purely by accident.

The first Catholic Cemetery is located about 500 feet off of the road.  The turn off is located at N 36° 45.196, W 088° 01.622'.  It is possible to drive up to the cemetery in a 4x4, otherwise I would recommend that you park your vehicle and walk up.  The cemetery is the first stage which is at the initial set of coordinates (N 36° 45.230, W 088° 01.519').  The cemetery is small with only about 10 headstones in it.  Some are simply unmarked stones.  You are looking for the typical footstones used to signify a military veteran.  The vetereans in this cemetery all fought in the Civil War.  This cemetery has veterans that fought on both sides.  Make sure you are respectful as you gather the information and there will just be a small amount of walking.  (NOTE:  You will not be able to get all of the information online, since it is not correct.)

The Final cache is located within a short distance of the cemetery.
Its location is at the following coordinates:   N 36° AB.CAD, W 088° DE.BFD' where
A = The number of letters in the birth month of the oldest veteran.
B = The number of letters in the first name of the veteran with the longest last name.
C = The number of veterans that fought for the Confederate Army.
D = The last digit in the year the youngest veteran died.
E = The number of veterans that fought for the Union Army.
F = The number that is repeated in the birth year of one of the veterans.

NOTE: Before leaving make sure to right down the information from the youngest veterans plaque.  You will need it when doing the cache at the second Catholic Cemetery (German Separation).

I hope you enjoy visiting the "German Heritage" at Land Between the Lakes.
