Menominee County does not currently have a lot of caches, so we
thought it would be fun to create a series of caches to bring
people to a bunch of places within the county that may have not
been seen by most geocachers and travelers before and to place a
few new caches. To that end we have placed at least one cache in
each of the 14 townships of the county as well as a few other
municipalities. We tried to take you off the beaten path a little
bit with this series, we hope that you enjoy hunting these caches
as much as we enjoyed placing them.
Ingallston Township
Ingallston Township is located in southeastern Menominee County.
Its eastern border is formed by Lake Michigan. The township has an
area of 71.6 square miles and had a 2000 population of 1,042
people. Roughly half the township (northwest) is within the
Stephenson Area Public Schools District, the other half is within
the Menominee Area Public Schools District.
This cache is located in Ingallston Township at the Hayward Lake
Public Access site. The road in to the access site is a two track
that is about 4/10 of a mile long. The road is a little rough in
places, but if you are careful you can probably do this with a car
(in the summer). We have listed coordinates for where the 2 track
meets Hayward Lake Road.
This is one of the more interesting public access sites I have
visited, it is actually very difficult to see the lake from the
access point, so the cache has been placed in a spot that will give
you a little better view of the lake itself.
This cache is part of the Menominee County Challenge (MCC)
series. Please be sure to note the letter on the inside of the
cache lid, as you will need this letter to come up with the
coordinates for the final cache.
