I got up
this morning and decided to do a little exploring and check on one
of my caches and hide one as well.
It wasn’t really exploring, it was more like a trip back in time
to when I use to ride my 3-wheeler down there and play along the
river on the trails.
That was a few years ago, when nobody cared about the river, and
long before it was called the Oklahoma River. I remember hearing on
the news that some guy said it was nothing more than a drainage
ditch that had to be mowed 3 times a year. Yeah right! No one mowed
the river. Heck, a certain Auto Salvage place even dumped their old
cars and tires off the cliff into the river.
Oh well,
that was then and this is now. The City has improved the River and
the areas around it. Hotels are being built and the new section of
SW 15th street is almost open to thru traffic between Meridian and
MacArthur.
I just had to check out the new 15th street bridge over the Washout
(at least that is what we called it back in the day). It started as
a little creek that drained into the river, and over the years the
rains eroded it away and made one heck of an obstacle to get across
in Jeeps and other 4x4s.
While walking
along the river I encountered lots of wildlife. I came upon a huge
soft shelled turtle sunning itself. I bet his shell was two feet
across. I also saw a few lizards, about 3 dozen cicadas, a
bazillion grasshoppers, lots of different kinds of birds, two
bullfrogs, and even a rat like creature crashing thru the
underbrush. I heard a lot more than I seen.
Funny thing is.... I didn’t even see one snake, there used to be
lots of them around.
You are
looking for a 30 kal. ammo kan with a rattle kan kamo job. It is
located in a shaded area beside the river, where a small pond used
to drain into the river. The kreek area was still damp with some
neat green shade grass growing, that is where I saw the
bullfrogs.
This spot beside the river used to be a very good fishing spot, and
looks like it still might be.
Be aware if
you go after this kache. You will be out in nature, you could find
all the little creeply crawly things that you may dislike. There is
also tall grass and poison ivy in the area, so come prepared, and
have a great time.
