Geocache Description:

Located not far from the Olde Shoppe Museum at the Tall Boy Lookout on the Squid Jiggers trail. From the lookout, the roof of Skipper Fred's home can be seen.

Skipper Fred Chaffey is a rare find...a wonderful friend and a sea captain of the first water. He has captained many worthy vessels in his day including the Bonnie Nell, Miami, Botwood, Agnes and Ann II, and the Barbara Darlene. All of these vessels transported the residents of Change Islands to areas where they could pick up the train or drive to other locations in Newfoundland. In honour of his 80th birthday, the Chaffey family gathered near the Squid Jiggin' Ground to celebrate and do some jiggin'. As well, we set this cache to mark his special day.

While on Change Islands, we logged the three available caches. The area is beautiful and peaceful and the people so friendly we felt this piece of paradise deserved a few more caches. We had four ready to go so we tried to place them in different ends of this village. We know we have missed a few good sites but we hope to remedy that when we return.

All the information you need when planning a trip to Change Islands is on their web site (visit link)

Also if you decide to stay overnight there is a small campground at the Olde Shoppe Museum. We stayed at the Seven Oakes B&B and were delighted with the accommodations, meals and friendly atmosphere. There are very few places to stay or eat on the Island, therefore, if you are staying overnight make sure you make prior reservations before visiting.

In a camo covered peanut butter jar. Contents log book, pencil, 1st finders prize and seafaring theme items.
