Off For A Wander: Ealees Wood Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

pod42: Archived as I'm no longer in the area to care for it. Plenty of space for new caches in the area then :)

Geocache Description:

NOTE: If approaching from the north west, you might encounter a stile with a piece of wood across it. It's to the side of a stone shed/stable. Please replace it after you go through, as the lambs can get through the stile without it due to how wide and low it is. It's not the best of solutions, but it's much easier access than some landowners allow.
During lambing season there are sometimes similar arrangements on other stiles in the area as well. Remember that yes it's a right of way, but it's also someone's job to keep the sheep from finding out what an A road looks like :P
*
A traditional cache located in Ealees Wood, a lovely stroll (though with some steep slippery inclines) up from Littleborough or the lake. You can also walk across the fields from Blackstone Edge Old Road, and drop down into the valley from the side.
Take time to admire the (very wide) bridge over the stream, which you might not notice you were standing on.
The cache itself is a small cylindrical container (used to contain cuppa soup :P).
The cache can be incorporated into a very pleasant longer walk (a number of routes could be taken) to take in other caches in the area such as "On the road to nowhere 'Aiggin'" (GCCE83), "Dogs Bowl" (GC110MC), "Windy Hill" (GC3A42), and the Ogden caches to the south, and Hollingworth Lake caches to the south-west. The caching to be had around and above Littleborough and Hollingworth Lake is very good, and I would encourage everyone to have a little explore (with the map, of course!) and see the place for yourself.
The whole thing could be easily done by most capable walkers in a day, parking at any point on the circular. Hollingworth Lake has a pay & display car park, and other parking can be found next to the canal opposite Littleborough rail station, or off Ripponden Road near geocache "War of the Roses - The Pink Rose" (GC1DKJP).
