The coordinates are for a notice board in St Mary's Churchyard
which is the starting place to find the answers to the questions
below.
Background
This area was first opened in 1809 as an additional burial ground
for St Mary's Church. It was closed in 1856 when it was full and it
fell into disrepair until it was finally closed to the public in
1980 for safety reasons. In 2003 a group called the Friends of St
Mary's was formed and they worked with Bath and North East Somerset
Council to reopen the area.
There is no physical cache in the churchyard. The final
container is a short walk away in an area children may like. There
is somewhere to obtain an ice-cream and a children's playground
nearby.
Questions
The answers to the following questions can be found from the signs
within the churchyard. There is no need to leave the paths and the
questions follow the number order of the boards.
How many letters in the last word of the 1st line of the 3rd
paragraph of the information board? This is A.
What was the birth year on the earliest known grave? This is
BCDE.
The great-granddaughter of a famous architect is buried here.
How many letters are there in her name? This is F (first name) and
G (surname).
One grave has a link to Australia. Who's grave is it? Take the
number of letters in each part of their name and this is H, I and
J. How old were they when they died? This is KL.
Coordinates
The final cache is at:
N51 (A-C)D.B(G-E)(I-J)
W002 L(G-H).AF(K-H)
Please note co-ordinates changed 16/08/08
If you would like more information the notice board gives
details of two nearby places to obtain a free leaflet. Collect one
on the way to the final location, it's interesting reading.
All the walking for this cache is on paved or gravel paths or
flat grass until the very last few feet and is suitable for
pushchairs as long as you don't mind bumps.
There is very limited parking near the start of this cache, most
is restricted to residents only, however it is only a short walk
from the middle of town where there are multiple car parks, park
and ride bus stops and public transport links.
The final location is under fairly heavy tree cover and you are
looking for a small lock and lock type box and when placed it
contained a few small swaps mainly aimed at younger geocachers and
should have room for small travel bugs and coins. Please feel free
to remove something to fit a trackable in if necessary. Please hide
the box carefully again to help stop it going missing.
This is my first multi-cache hide so please let me know what you
think.
