Menominee County does not currently have a lot of caches, so we
thought it would be fun to create a series of caches to bring
people to a bunch of places within the county that may have not
been seen by most geocachers and travelers before and to place a
few new caches. To that end we have placed at least one cache in
each of the 14 townships of the county as well as a few other
municipalities. We tried to take you off the beaten path a little
bit with this series, we hope that you enjoy hunting these caches
as much as we enjoyed placing them.
Harris Township
Harris township is located in the northeastern part of the county,
sharing a border with both Marquette and Delta Counties. The
township has an area of 143.2 square miles and had a 2000
population of 1,895 people. It is home to the small communities of
Harris, Wilson, Hannahville, Perronville, and Eustis. Almost the
entire township is within the Bark River-Harris Public Schools
District. A small portion of the western part of the township is
within the North Central Area Schools District. An unusual fact
about this township is that although it is located within the
Central Time Zone geographically, almost the entire township goes
by Eastern time (the part within the Bark River-Harris School
District). Because the Bark River-Harris School District
encompasses area in both time zones, a decision was made somewhere
along the line to have the township go by Eastern Time so that the
entire district was on the same time.
The cache is located in a very neat cemetery in Perronville. It
is located in the same area as the previous cache that we had at
this location, but we felt that this cemetery just had to be a part
of this series. If you found the cache previously you may claim a
find online, provided you actually revisit the cache (you are going
to have to for the letter anyway). We hope that you enjoy this spot
as much as we do! Don't worry about the 2 track back to the cache,
any car can do it (but I don't believe it is plowed in the
winter).
This cache is part of the Menominee County Challenge (MCC)
series. Please be sure to note the letter on the inside of the
cache lid, as you will need this letter to come up with the
coordinates for the final cache.
