Geocache Description:

A cache in Caledon Natural Area. Walk the scenic trails through old growth forest in this Virginia park. Caledon's principle role is a Bald Eagle preserve. At more than 2500 acres, Caledon protects a large tract of forest, and provides nearly eight miles of year round hiking trails, with additional trails open in the off-season. On June 28, 2007, Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne announced that American Bald Eagle had been removed from the Endangered Species List. In the 40+ years since 1963, when the lower 48 states were home to barely 400 nesting pairs of bald eagles, their numbers have swollen to some 10,000 nesting pairs.

Based on the current health of the eagle population in the area, the state is considering opening up the Boyd's Hole Trail year round, providing access to the Potomac river throughout the summer. Whoo-hoo -- more space for geocaching!

You are looking for a micro in the woods close to the trail.

Placed with permission. Parking is at the main lot by the visitor center. Grab some other caches while you're there. Park hours are 8:00 am to sunset, and there is a parking fee of $3.00 during the week and $4.00 weekends and holidays. Get all the park's caches while you are there. Stop and enjoy the visitor center if it's open!
