Geocache Description:

The coordinates above are for one of the recommended parking spots, NOT the cache location. It will help if you have an OS map to navigate to the footpaths - please be aware that this will involve a walk down a country road, to reach a seldom used footpath, which is relatively busy with fast traffic, so please keep yourself and any 'geokiddies' safe. The road part of the walk is much shorter if you park at the alternative parking place listed, but there is only room for 1 car.

The walk to the cache is likely to be wet and muddy even in summer, so please make sure that you wear appropriate footwear.

When published, this bonus cache required you to find clues in the six 'Monks Micro Mayhem' series of caches. As some of this have had to be archived, here are the clues that you will need to help you solve the puzzle below:

  • Monks Micro Mayhem #2 = Green
  • Monks Micro Mayhem #3 = Violet
  • Monks Micro Mayhem #4 = Red
  • Monks Micro Mayhem #5 = Indigo
  • Monks Micro Mayhem #6 = Blue

The EU intelligence task force were on manoeuvres in Hampshire, with the objective of discovering a hidden location. They had been told that they first must obtain clues from all the ‘Monks Micro Mayhem’ series of geocaches and, from this, work out the final location where they would discover their metaphorical ‘Pot of Gold’.

The team were still puzzling over, what on the face of it, looked like very simple clues – some of the best minds to come out of the top universities in Europe were scratching their heads, unable to decipher anything that would lead them to a specific location. They came to the conclusion that there must be some missing information, and decided to contact HQ to see if they had forgotten to pass on any vital information. They were in luck, and soon afterwards the following message appeared on their PDA:

Use the missing information, in order, to determine the final location, and avoid ‘Red Herrings’. Ask your French colleague, Pascal, to help you crack the code using simple Sums. Your British colleague, the converted Arsenal supporter, will be able to help you determine the final coordinates. You will need the following:

First letter add 4
Second letter add 3
Third letter equivalent + row 0 + row 1
Fourth letter equivalent -row 3 - row 2 - row 1
Fifth letter equivalent - row 1 - row 0
Sixth letter equivalent - row 1 - row 0
(Seventh letter equivalent - 1) / (row 1 + row 2)
Eighth letter equivalent - row 1 - row 0
Ninth letter equivalent - row 3 - row 1 - row 0
Tenth letter equivalent - row 3 - row 0
Eleventh letter equivalent - row 4 + row 0
Twelfth letter equivalent - row 4 - row 2 - row 0

With this data, the team, quickly solved the puzzle and were on their way to the final location.
