Easy hike on private property to a natural bridge. Ammo Can.
Virginia - Schmirginia, we've got our own natural bridge. What is really cool about this one is that there are no gift shops or other tourists to get in front of your camera lens. This cache is on private property, but the property owner has given permission. There are other locals and locals from long ago that come here on occasion to view this natural phenomenon so be sure to hide the cache the way you found it or better to keep it from getting muggled!
Be very courteous and cordial to the property owners; do not drive beyond their driveway and onto the trail to the cache. Be careful not to run over their dogs (border collies and Jack Russell Terriers)...they do not bite and will assist you on your hunt ;)
Waypoints:
The road along "Little Left Hand Road" (CR5) from near Amma, WV is now open again. This is the fastest route. Take Little Left Hand Road to:
N 38* 37.415 W 081* 16.982
____________________________________________
ALTERNATE ROUTES:
You can also go via Johnson Creek Road from Walton or Vineyard Ridge Road (same road, other end) from Rt. 36 near Looneyville, WV. Off of Johnson Creek/Vineyard Ridge Road you turn off onto the other end of Little Left Hand Road at:
N 38* 37.568 W 081* 17.327
Then turn left onto the private road at:
N 38* 37.415 W 081* 16.982.
_______________________________________________
Then park at the property owner's house at:
N 38* 37.165 W 081* 16.748. There is a sign at this location that says "Natural Bridge" and has a finger pointing the way. The cache is a 0.20 mile hike from here.
The post offices of Left Hand, WV and Looneyville, WV are nearby and are practically virtual caches themselves as a lot of people like to take cheesy pictures in front of their signs due to their quirky names.
FTF CONTEST - Congrats to Abraham32 for being FTF/photo of almost all 4 of this series of southern Roane County caches. Team Abraham32 didn't get the photo of Smith Heritage 1 due to darkness, but I gave in anyway. Frex3wv got photos of all 4 but didn't technically get in the shot on Smith Heritage 2. But since I'm a pushover I'll award both with the prize.
For the rest of future cachers, go ahead and post your pictures as well. I'd love to see them, but no prizes.
