Geocache Description:

This one is a tribute to sagelily’s wonderful Paddle-To-The-C (GC133k0), and to her inspired series of “Kidstuff” caches. We’re (temporarily) abandoning our usual nefarious modus operandi to make this a short and easy one for kids to both zero in on and retrieve, especially kids in the bow of a canoe, kayak, paddleboat or rowboat.

The “5” terrain rating is solely because the rules of caching dictate this rating for any cache requiring a boat.

The best boat put-in spot is the same launch site as the preferred one for Paddle-To-The-C – N45 13.264 W 075 40.352. Plan on doing both caches together, as this one involves only about a 20 -30 minute detour from the other.

The posted coordinates are the first waypoint of your voyage, where you’ll find a tag with the decimal minute portions of the N and W coordinates for the 2nd waypoint. It’s readable from the boat.

At the 2nd waypoint you’ll find a small container (dry, we pray) containing a number of identical photos of a view of the upstream shoreline that you see when you are at the cache. Since you can’t quite reach the container from the boat, you’ll have to put one of the crew ashore – it’s a public access spot. Have the crew member take one of the photos from the container.

Then head your boat upriver and have the kid(s) look for a spot that matches up with the spot from which the photo was taken. There the kids can easily grab the cache without leaving the boat. If you’ve paddled for half a kilometer from the 2nd waypoint, you’ve gone too far.

The cache originally contained a logbook, pencil, first-to-find candy money, a caching manifesto and various kidstuff.

NOTE #1: If you’d like to borrow a canoe, paddleboat or rowboat and life jackets, and use our launch site, just send us an e-mail.
NOTE #2: This cache is definitely NOT winter friendly as the ice is extremely unstable in this area of the river.
