Scendendo dal Passo della Presolana, lungo Via Valle Sponda, verso
Dezzo Di Scalve, nel Parco delle Orobie Bergamasche, è molto
difficile non rimanere colpiti dalla presenza di un
Lockheed
F-104 Starfighter, 'parcheggiato' lungo la strada insieme ad un
obice.
Abbiamo ricevuto dal FTF (
grazie mille) queste informazioni
che, ovviamente, siamo lieti di integrare in questo listing:
L'F-104 è uno tra i più famosi caccia-intercettori di
tutti i tempi, rimasto in servizio in Italia fino al 31 Ottobre
2004, pur essendo un velivolo superato e non più affidabile
nonostante i continui aggiornamenti.
E' entrato in servizio nel 1958 con l'USAF, ma, sebbene dotato di
buone prestazioni di tangenza massima e di velocità di salita che
lo rendevano ideale come intercettore, possedeva una bassa
manovrabilità, dovuta soprattutto alla scarsa superficie alare,
ereditata dall'essere stato concepito come un vettore di missili: i
piloti avrebbero solo dovuto raggiungere un'area sicura da dove
lanciare i loro missili contro l'obiettivo designato e poi
ritornare alla base, senza ingaggiare combattimenti aerei
ravvicinati. Ciò implicava alte velocità di manovra (soprattutto in
virata) con eccessivi spazi richiesti per i duelli ravvicinati ed è
questo il motivo che lo ha reso negli anni sempre meno
interessante.
In Italia, a causa di alcuni incidenti accorsi la stampa
generalista coniò il triste nomignolo di "bara volante", ma
all'F-104 è anche attribuito quello di "widowmaker" ("fabbrica di
vedove").
Il velivolo è stato sostituito prima con dei Tornado F-1 in
leasing dalla RAF e poi da F-16 in leasing dall'USAF e, a partire
dal 2005, dall'Eurofighter Typhoon, che offre prestazioni e
manovrabilità al passo con i tempi.
La storia di questo specifico aereo della Seconda Guerra
Mondiale ci è assolutamente sconosciuta e, qualora qualcuno ne
fosse a conoscenza, saremmo grati di conoscerla: potete inserirla
in un log o inviarcela via email, così la integreremo nel testo di
questo cache.
Difficile non resistere alla tentazione di piazzare un cache e di
far partire da qui un geocoin a memoria di Francesco Baracca,
grandissimo aviatore della Prima Guerra Mondiale.
Il cache è un tupperware ermetico avvolto in un sacchetto di
plastica, contenente alcuni oggetti, logbook e penna e una busta di
anti umidità (SilicaGel) da non rimuovere! E' stato nascosto
a fianco dell'area di parcheggio, in prossimità del bordo.
Nei mesi invernali e, comunque in presenza di neve, non è
consigliata la ricerca.

information which, of course, we're happy to integrate in this
listing:
The F-104 is one of the most famous
fighter-interceptors of all times, remained in service in Italy
until 31 October 2004, even though it was an 'old' aircraft and no
longer reliable despite the constant updates.
It started its service in 1958 within the USAF, but, although he
had very good performance on both max tangent and speed climb which
made it ideal as interceptor, had a very low maneuverability,
mainly due to poor surface wing, inherited from being conceived as
a vector of missiles: the pilots would have only had to reach a
safe position from where to launch their missiles against the
designated target and then return to base without starting any
combat aircraft. This implied high speed driving (especially in
turning) with excessive space required for close duels and this is
the reason that made him over the years always less
interesting.
In Italy, due to some incidents the generalist press coined the
nickname of "flying coffin", but to the F-104 is also attributed
the "widowmaker" nickname.
The aircraft was replaced at the beginning with the Tornado F-1
leased by the RAF and then by the F-16 leased dall'USAF. From 2005
it has been replaced by the Eurofighter Typhoon, which offers great
performance and maneuverability.

It has been impossible not hide a cache and to have this place as
the start of a geocoin in mamory of Francesco Baracca one of the
most famous aviators of the First World War.
The cache is an airtight tupperware wrapped in a plastic bag. It
contains a few objects, logbook, a pen and an
anti-humidity
small bag (SilicaGel) that should not be removed! It has been
hidden close on the side of the parking area, close to the
border.
During winter and anyway when there is snow, we do not advise to
search for it.
