BONDS BRIDGE is built on the edge of the National Trust
property, The Argory, and is a listed structure. A ferry ran here
until the bridge was built in 1895.
This area is also part of the Blackwater canoe trail at access
5, a trail that provides 20km of river for canoeing enthusiasts.
The river meanders through counties Armagh and Tyrone and flows
into Lough Neagh.
There is much birdlife to be seen in this area and in particular
the grey heron is a frequent visitor. Indeed we saw a heron as we
placed the cache. It uses its long legs to wade into the water
where it can be seen fishing using its sharp eyesight and dagger
light bill. It is one of the first birds to nest in Spring and
usually nests in groups
THE CACHE is a micro, a camouflaged film canister
containing log and pencil. It is hidden on the bridge. Please use
utmost caution at the cache location as there is a narrow walkway.
It isn't suitable for small children unless they're strapped to
your back and has been given the terrain rating as it could be
accessed by wheelchair, although it may not be the safest spot to
do so.
The cache is essentially a cache and dash but it is worth taking
time to stop and admire the views around. Parking can be found
within metres of the cache.
Please replace the cache carefully. The place is popular with
muggles so discretion is required.
