In following the theme of great sports nicknames, this one is in honor of Lou Gehrig, a Hall of Fame infielder for the New York Yankees from 1923-1939.

Gehrig famously earned his nickname when in 1925 Wally Pipp asked to sit out a game and Gehrig was inserted in the lineup in his place. He then proceeded to play in every game for over 13 years; hence, earning the nickname "The Iron Horse." The streak sadly came to an end when he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) which is now widely known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
