Geocache Description:

Thanks to Butttercup for starting the series and asking others to add to it. To qualify as a hidden treasure a location must take cachers to places where they will find the last thing they were expecting. For the purposes of this cache, I asked 10 people in my team at work if they knew where Birmingham's Peace Garden was. Two people knew (one knew a lot!) but, given that the predominant response (many from lifelong Brummies) was "I didn't know there was one!", in my book it qualifies as a hidden treasure.

The Peace Garden is set alongside the old Church of St Thomas on Bath Row which was substantially damaged by bombing in the Second World War. The colonnade on the North side of the garden originally stood in Centenary Square alongside the Hall of Memory (where Memories cache is based) but was re-erected here in 1990. The garden is very tranquil and features a number of messages of peace from different faiths and countries as well as plaques detailing the history of the Church and remembering the fallen of various military campaigns. In 1998, the leader of each of the G8 nations planted a tree here.

The listing co-ordinates are for the centre of the garden. However, in order to ensure that seekers fully appreciate the Garden, the cache has been set up as an information-gathering multi, leading to a nearby final location at N52 28.ABC W001 54.DEF.

The values of A - F are derived as follows:

A. How many letters are there in the name of the Field mentioned on the plaque placed by the British Nuclear Test Veterans Association?

B. In what year did Agnes Finnegan die: 19_5?

C. The number of sentences in the Hindu message of peace divided by 10.

D. The Sikh Faith message of peace is from Sri Guru Granth Sahib. A page number is given. Subtract the smaller digit from the larger one to get D.

E. Was the tree planted on the 50th anniversary of the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki planted by a man (E = 0) or a woman (E = 1)?.

F. In the centre of the garden is a white post with writing in various languages. The English words are: "May Peace [word] On Earth". How many letters in the missing word?

The Garden is fenced off and may be locked at times (although I have never seen it locked). If you do find it locked, please do not vault the fence or pick the lock (!) but do let me know so I can add a note to the listing page. A couple of cachers have found the Garden locked after dark. I'm still trying to find out definitive locking up times but, until I know any different, I would avoid visiting the Garden after dusk.

Please take care in the Garden when it is wet as the flagstones can be rather slippy.
The cache is a magnetic container. There is no pen / pencil in the cache. Please bring your own.
