Bruntwood Park is a Green Flag award-winning park situated in Cheadle. It offers a wide range of facilities including an excellent children’s play area, duck pond, restaurant, picnic areas ponds, waterways and wetland areas , ornamental wildfowl, walkways in mature woodland. An outdoor archery range is the home to the “Bowmen of Bruntwood”.
Bruntwood Park was formerly a private estate named by its original occupant, John Douglas, after a village in Ayrshire, Scotland.
Originally built in 1861, the imposing Bruntwood Hall housed a series of wealthy industrialists. These included James Edward Platt who built a stud farm on the estate. The hall, which for a time acted as Council Offices for Cheadle and Gatley Urban District Council, is now in private ownership and not open to the public.
The park has been public open space since the 1940s. Bruntwood Park. It was originally created from a privately owned estate and hall with the original landscaping containing small areas of formal garden, water features and stands of native trees, which have matured to give fine specimens of Oak, Beech and Pine.
Car parking is available within the park at a Pay and Display (£1 for 2 hours, 70p for 1hr) at N53.22.807 W002.12.568. Alternatively there are some parking bays on Wilmslow Road at N53.22.979 W002.13.004.
This is a series of caches set within and around the park. Some paths can be muddy.
