Geocache Description:

Mount Karioi is the prominent extinct volcano looming 756m over Raglan.
From the summit there are fantastic views all around the coastline and harbours, with Mt. Taranaki looking very close on a clear day.

To get to the summit there are two possibilities (see map attached):
1) The Mt Karioi track starts from Te Toto Gorge, and is the longer, steeper, but more interesting route. Times posted to the summit are 3 hours one way.
2) The Wairake track starts from the other side, and is the quicker way up. This is signposted as 2 hours up which is quite generous (it usually takes me about 45 minutes). Follow the Ruapuke Rd from Te Mata and turn right on Karioi Rd which takes you to a parking area on farmland. Follow the markers up the farm track and into the bush.

Once you've found this cache, not only do you get to log a smiley, but you have also officially bagged another peak as a bonus. Check it out on www.peakbagging.org.nz

Note that there are now intentionally two caches near GZ. The official one is at the coordinates given and has the relevant clue. The other is a 'mugglebook' for anyone to sign. Check out my owner maintenance report on 28th March for details.
