Geocache Description:

Wheal Eliza is a 1l clipbox hidden around the disused Wheal Eliza Consols Mine Site.

Wheal Eliza Consols incorporated a group of mines that produced tin and copper from the 1850's until the early 1900's. In its heyday, nearly 350 people worked above and below ground at this mine.

Many people know about Cornwall's 'famous' mines, located 'Down West' and in the East of the county, but St Austell's mines are mostly forgotten. Although very securely fenced and largely overgrown, it is still possible to safely see the remains of the engine house and stack at this mine from the OUTSIDE of the fence. Please don't be tempted to trespass to take a closer look.

Access to the cache is via public footpaths.

It is possible to park along the road near Boscundle Manor Hotel (or in the layby at N50 20.883 W004 44.693).

Access to the footpath has been diverted by the hotel up Boscundle Close (N50 20.791 W004 44.733).

Alternatively, you can park and access the path to the cache just off the A390 (at N50 20.670 W004 44.877).
