Geocache Description:

This geocache is best accessed from Holcomb Farm. A large bridge crossing the Salmon Brook is currently unusable. But if you start at Holcomb Farm, crossing the brook is not required! The cache is located on the red-blazed trail called the Brook Loop. It is placed just a few feet off of the trail.

This geocache was originally placed by our friend, the geocacher known as Miles Stone. His original description is given below --

This journey takes you to the shores of Salmon Brook adjacent to Holcomb Farm. As you sign the cache log, imagine the year is 1680. As of 1671, there are only 2,050 white men in Connecticut. The suffering of the 1675 and 1676 Indian wars are fresh in your clan's memories.

You, along with a group of independently minded individuals from the the town of Windsor, crossed Talcott Ridge to settle this vast wilderness. The 100 square mile area west of Talcott Ridge known as colonial Simsbury, Salmon Brook became associated with your group of rugged individuals who charted this bold course.

Despite the hardships, you arrive at the shores of Salmon Brook, and you can forsee the wealth this land has to offer to support your family. The first Holcomb family member broke ground near here in 1719; about forty years later.

As always, enjoy the adventure!
