Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

There is no reason to go there...
and it might be quite
dangerous (and possibly illegal)
to do so.

Hundreds of years ago, pirates sailed the mighty Ottawa river. Bad weather would often force them to take shelter in the many coves and bays. It was during one of these forced landings that a small group of these pirates broke away during the night to hide a small booty for their retirement. They marked the location of their hiding place on a map with an X and the most respected and learned of this band was entrusted with the map.

In addition to being learned, the fellow was also shrewd and he knew that none of his mates could be trusted. So he devised a crafty little puzzle and replaced the map in his satchel with the puzzle. He then burned the map and cast the ashes into the river.

Month's later, his concerns were validated. His mates, in a drunken stupor, demanded that he turn over the map. When he refused, they killed him and dumped him overboard... but not before cutting the satchel from his waist.

They were horrified to find the puzzle where they expected a map. This horror turned to rage and they quickly turned on each other blaming one another for their predicament. Being drunk didn't help the situation. Out came the daggers and guns... and minutes later, all were either dead or mortally injured. Just before the last expired, he pressed the puzzle into the hands of a deck boy, who was hiding in a corner, and told him to keep it safe.

The puzzle survived through many generations of the boy's family. It was recently discovered in an old trunk in the attic of a cottage undergoing renovations in Crystal Beach.

You now have the chance to discover the booty after so, so many years.

To find it, you need to recreate the map which was destroyed hundreds of years ago.
You need only to solve the puzzle to learn where to place the X.
A little logic is all it will take.

In the long division below:
1. Each of the dots and letters represents some numeric digit (any digit).
2. All of the A's represent the same digit (for example, all the A's could be a 3 and every 3 would be shown as an A).
3. Each of the other letters are there only to identify digits for use in the coordinates and can be any digit or the same digit (but not a 3 if A is 3).
4. If A is not 3, then all the above still applies.

Subtract the quotient from 9917 to get B.

Mark an X on your map by drawing a line at longitude W75 5b.cde and a second line at a bearing of B mils from posted.

Now with map in hand, go and find the booty. X marks the spot.

Good luck.
