Stack Hill, Boulsworth Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

belbincolne: This was a letterbox set by a friend as part of a series. As it seems to have gone I'm archiving as a geocache. If anyone wanys a list of around a dozen Letterboxes (NOT geocache hybrids) on Boulsworth let me know and I'll send details.

Geocache Description:

Stack Hill, Boulsworth

This cache is actually one of the 12 Boulsworth Letterboxes placed by John Kirk three years ago. Whilst checking them for the Pendle Walking Festival it occurred to us (rather late as this is the penultimate box) that we could also use some as Geocaches. Maybe we'll add another higher up as a cache for next years Festival!

Several cachers have already found some of the Letterboxes and if you want a complete list email John, the owner, at
john.kirk284@ntlworld.com
when he will be pleased to send you a complete list together with the clues. The complete round is rather gruelling over tussocks and boggy terrain taking some 4 hours (plus) depending upon where you start.

To reach the site follow the big Under Boulsworth Track from either end (Wycoller or Coldwell) until your gps points you to Stack Hill and make your way down a ravine, across the stream, and up the other side returning the same way. Unless you are completing the full Letterboxing round when you will reach it by a boggy descent form the summit ridge.

The Hill itself is a spoil heap. Although all the surrounding area is gritstone glaciers carried limestone here from the Malham area and it was picked up and smelted locally - in front of the Hill there may be the remains of a small kiln. The (now grass covered) scars of this activity can be seen all around.
