Surprise Lake Traditional Cache
GrnXnham: This is a shame because this is such a cool place. We were hoping the "No Trespassing" signs would be temporary due to logging operations, but after five years we think this lake will remain inaccessible. It had a good run anyway!

This is a journey to Surprise Lake. The one-way trip is approximately 2.1 miles with an elevation gain of 1200 feet.
You can hike to the cache or ride a motorcycle, ATV, Jeep, or some other off-road vehicle. The trail is overgrown in places and a bit rough for most stock SUV's/trucks (see pics), so we wouldn't recommend tackling this one in your SUV unless you are an experienced off-roader and don't care about scratches in your paint.
Due to the poor condition of the main road that leads to the trail, you are not likely to encounter many other vehicles or people on this trail even on a Saturday with beautiful weather.
The views along the way of Mt. Rainier are spectacular and the pristine lake is full of trout.
The trailhead begins at a 4-way intersection so it can be easy to go the wrong way off of the main road (Forest Road 7810.) The waypoints below are for parking at the beginning of the trail head off of National Forest Road 7810 and for a reference point along the trail to verify that you are on the correct trail. The trail appears to travel away from the cache at 1st but it makes several switchbacks on the way to the lake.
Cache elevation is approximately 4500 feet so this one probably isn't accessible in winter.
