Geocache Description:

The Tongue: a rarely visited viewpoint at the top of Troutbeck valley, below Threshthwaite Mouth. Last in the series of caches from Moorhowe Road.

A small path runs along the ridge from 'Say Ahhhh...' and the view south suddenly appears as you crest the top. The summit is a small rocky knoll and a great place to sit and enjoy the valley. Over to the right is the Kirkstone Road but it doesn't detract from the experience.

The cache is a little way beyond the actual summit at another rocky knoll before the plunge off the very tip of The Tongue. A small, steep path leads down through the bracken, bear left to reach the track on the west side of Hagg Beck. Cross over the stream on the link path to rejoin the east side track for the return to Moorhowe Road.

The suggested route from Moorhowe Road is one of the best ways to approach The Tongue, which isn't particularly easy to get to otherwise. It also rewards you with an excellent low-level route, with gentle gradients, easy navigation, fine views, and a good length. A lovely journey through the hills. It's good for cycles or feet, although cycles aren't ok on The Tongue itself. Hope you enjoy your adventure.

The caches here are placed with the permission of the National Trust.
