[LT] Romuciu piliakalnis
Piliakalnis (Gojelis) irengtas aukštumos kyšulyje, Ventos dešiniajame krante, santakoje su Upiuku. Aikštele keturkampe, pailga PV-ŠR kryptimi, 35x20 m dydžio. Jos ŠV krašte supiltas 25 m ilgio, 2,5 m aukšcio, 24 m plocio pylimas, kurio išorinis 1,5 m aukšcio šlaitas leidžiasi i 11 m plocio, 0,5 m gylio griovi. P šlaite, 3,6 m žemiau aikšteles yra 13 m ilgio, 10 m plocio terasa. 2 m žemiau jos iškastas 3 m plocio, 2 m gylio griovys, už kurio supiltas 2 m aukšcio, 8 m plocio pylimas. Šlaitai status, 6-10 m aukšcio.
Piliakalnis apardytas jame XIX-XX a. pradžioje buvusiu kapiniu (ant pylimo tebestovi kryžiai ir murine koplytele), P šlaitas - keliuko. Aikštele dirvonuoja (Š dalis apaugusi gyvatvoremis), šlaitai apauge lapuociais, krumu pomiškis iškirstas.
ŠV ir PR papedese, 1 ha plote yra papedes gyvenviete (tyrineta 2002 m.), kurioje rastas 10 cm storio XI-XIII a. kulturinis sluoksnis su žiesta keramika ir gyvuliu kaulais.
Piliakalnis datuojamas I tukst. - II tukst. pradžia.
Pasiekiamas iš Kuršenu-Papiles plento (115) Romuciuose pasukus i kaire (PV), už 900 m pasukus i dešine (ŠV) ir paejus 150 m palauke (yra už Srauto upelio).
[EN] Hill fort "Romuciai"
The hill fort is located on the very top of the hill, on the right riverside of Venta, on river’s confluence with affluent Upiukas. This is a square site, oblong in direction of SW-NE. On the NW side of a site there is bank 25m length / 2,5m height / 24m width. It’s outer side (1,5m height) bends down to the trench 1,5m height / 11m width / 0,5m depth. On the southern downhill, 3,6m below the site, there is a terrace 13 length / 10m width. 2 more meters below there is another trench 3m width / 2m depth and another bank behind it, 2m height / 8m width. The downhill is steep, 6-10m height.
Hill fort was a bit destroyed by the graveyard, which dates back to XIX-XX centuries, so you can still see some crosses and stone chapel there. Southern downhill was a bit damaged making a track on it. The site lies waste, it‘s north side planted with green fence, leafy forest on a downhill.
In XI-XIII centuries antient village existed on the hill‘s base, in area of 1ha. In 2002 some archeological researches were made, some animal bones and pieces of throw ceramics found.
Fort hill dates back to I century / beginning of II century.
Take left from the road Kursenai-Papile (115) in Romuciai, SW direction. In 900m turn right (NW) and take a 150m walk along the field. Hill fort is beyond Srautas stream.
