The "Hortobágy-Berettyó" main-canal made for the diversion of the inland waters and for watering.
From 1898 to 1899 there had been built a "three-opening tabular flood gate" in the mouth of the rivers.
In its opened stage it allows free boating through the "Hármas-Körös" and the main-canal. If the "Hármas-Körös" 's waterlevel too high the flood can be excluded by closing the gate. Thanks to this in the "Hortobágy-Berettyó" is very rare the flood-risk.
