Geocache Description:

A challenging little puzzle cache to explore a neat little park

Opening way back in 1924, Payne Park was the spring training home to several major league teams up until 1988 when teams moved up to Ed Smith Stadium. There are no remnants left of the old ballpark, but on the grounds is now Payne Park containing tennis courts, a skateboard park, a nice walking trail, benches, jogging trail and lots of neat fountains and greenery. Surprisingly not many folks, even those who work in downtown, even know this little spot of beauty is here.

The cache itself is not hidden inside the park but you will have to explore the park to make the find. When the cache was placed the weather was nice and during an hour explore of the park, the only muggles around were one father walking his young son around the trails. So if you want a nice place to come and relax during lunch break check this out!

To make the find here you'll need to explore the park and take some notes. Nothing really complicated here but you will have to walk the entire trail, approximately 1/2 mile, not too much as the trail is a nice comfortable walk. Near the posted coords is plenty of free public parking.

When you reach the listed coords, you will see a very nice arrangement of water fountains spraying onto a rock display. You adventure begins here as you will need to walk the red path you see in front of you. Head towards N27 19.973 W082 31.697 and when you arrive you will be near a bright red item. Count the number of legs that this is standing upon and note this number as LEGS.

From there you need to proceed around the red jogging trail. You don't need to jog, but you do need to do the entire lap. While you are on your way you will see plenty of little benches on the trail itself you can sit and rest on. While making the lap around the track, count the benches. All of them. And log this as BENCHES.

As you head around the trail, you will reach the location N27 19.881 W82 31.688 and here you will have a nice little lake in front of you as you will find yourself at a little sidewalk circle with some rather large palm trees. Count the palm trees that surround the circle but it has been brought to our attention that an extra palm has been planted so SUBTRACT 1 from the number you count and note this as PALMS.
Now that you have done your legwork, time to do your homework.

AA = LEGS + BENCHES + 4
BB = (LEGS X BENCHES) + 39
CC = LEGS + BENCHES + PALMS +4
DDD = (BENCHES + PALMS) X 27

N27 AA.0BB W82 CC.DDD

N27 __ __ . 0 __ __ W82 __ __ . __ __ __

You now have the coords for the final so what are you waiting for. Remember this is a micro so be sure to bring your own pen. Be careful when seeking the final as there might be muggles around and be extremely CAREFUL around any plants as you don't need to tromp on or thru anything to find this. Respect the greenery! Be sure to hide the final back as good as you found it and close it tightly.

Also, looks like Sarasota has approved the purchase of 2 acres of land near Payne Park to potentially build a new baseball stadium in downtown as the new Spring Training home to the Boston Red Sox. This is still in the planning stages but might be some baseball cap wearing muggles around before long.

Enjoy the park and have fun,
iMPG
