Geocache Description:

Up the hill from the trail..watch for the wilderness area sign and the spring.

My grandpa and family members loved to come to Barrett and Lawrence Lakes. More than 50 years ago, they placed a cache in the rocks above one of the lakes; not a geocache, but buckets filled with blankets, cooking gear, and non-perishable food for their visits. They would come in by the Jeep trail, either in jeeps or on horses or foot. They would camp and fish at both lakes, jump off the big rock at Lawrence Lake, and hike for days to Lakes Nine, Three, Lost, Top, and Five.
I grew up loving the stories that my grandpa told about the fun they had at those lakes, but by the time I was able to visit them, my grandpa couldn't go. But, he drew me a map so, after a bit of searching, I was able to find his cache. Amazingly, all the 50 gallon drums and 15 gallon drums were still intact, although one had a hole rusted in the bottom. Upon opening the barrels, I found blankets, frying pans, rusty forks and spoons, and even jars of flour and popcorn. I will not post the location of the cache, but if you do happen to stumble upon it, please leave it as it is.
I placed the cache in a spot that I thought my grandpa would enjoy--a beautiful view of Barrett Lake and the sound of the Lawrence Lake outlet cascading down the hill near the trail.
