Located at the former Flambeau Mine Site south of Ladysmith off of Highway 27. Well-developed trails, but not paved.
The Reclaimed Flambeau Mine Trails Trailhead parking (N 45o 26.628’ W 091o 06.713’) is the place to park if you feel like a longer hike through the Reclaimed Flambeau Mine site. Or if you want a shorter walk, park in the Copper Park Equestrian Trails Trailhead (N 45o 26.296’ W 091o 06.820’). Either way, make sure to pack a lunch since at the end of your walk there is a nice spot to have a bite to eat at picnic tables on the bank of the Flambeau River. The reclaimed Flambeau Mine is only 140 feet from the river at this point. You won’t be able to find the former pit since it was backfilled in 1997 and has since been reclaimed to prairie grassland. The only sign of where the pit used to be are monitoring wells, four at each location over the deepest parts of the pit which was 220 feet at its deepest. Or try a bit of fishing. Fishermen frequent this part of the river either from shore or boat since the smallmouth bass fishing is great!
