A nice and easy strawl through the oldest part of Skipton in a beautiful hidden corner, along the canal and through the Skipton forest.
This multicache takes you on a few mile but pleasant and easy walk through the oldest part of Skipton in a hidden corner, along the Lord Thanets Canal and through the Skipton woods to near the starting point where the cache and a reward for your efforts awaits you.
Collect some sumbers along the way and save them as ABCD etc. where the first number collected is A, the second B, etc.
A few notes:
- You'll walk along the Lord Thanets Canal (Spring Branch)
Lord Thanet in Skipton owned both Skipton Castle and the local limestone quarries. He proposed the contruction of a quarter mile branch canal to connect the quarries with the new Leeds Liverpool Canal, after the refusal of the canal company to alter the line previously surveyed. An act was passed in 1773 in support of this. The branch canal was built quickly. In 1785 the canal company took over the lease.
- The access to the woods is public access although you'll be crossing some private property to get to the entry.
- Park on one of the parking places or in the centre of lovely Skipton.
- The pork pies accross the street from the starting point seem to be famous...
