Hillsand är beläget vid Ströms Vattudal ca 5 mil nordväst om Strömsund i norra Jämtland.
Hillsand ligger ca 5 mil upp över den västra sidan av Ströms Vattudal och när man reser dit slås man av att naturen är underbar.
Byn har under sin storhetstid haft ca 300 invånare, två affärer, en skola och strax ovanför kapellet fanns ett barnhem. Barnhemmet inrymde 60-70 platser och ålderdomshem 10 platser för lappar i ströms socken och upprättades 1877 av pastor Mikael Sandell. Det var i drift till någon gång under 40-talet och revs någon gång under 60-talet. Numera är både affärerna och skolan nedlagda och byn har ca 30 fast boende.
Hillsand kapell byggdes 1931 av EFS, men skänktes till Ströms församling 1956.
Ströms Vattudal (förr även: Vassdalen) är ett omfattande vattensystem i norra Jämtland. Vattudalen sträcker sig från Kvarnbergsvattnet i norr, nära Gäddede vid norska gränsen, till Russfjärden vid Strömsund i söder där den rinner ut i Faxälven, nära Ulriksfors. Sjön är Sveriges 12:e största med en yta av 183 km2.

The village Hillsand is located about 50 km upstream on the west side of Ströms Vattudal and what hits you while driving there is how beautiful the nature is.
The village hade during it greater days about 300 citizens, two stores, a school and just above the chapel there where an orphanage. The orphanage hade room for 60-70 children and the senior citizens home for 10 people of the Laplanders in Ströms county and where established by the pastor Mikael Sandell in 1877. It where in use until the 40´s and where torn down in the 60´s. These days both the stores and the school are closed and there are about 30 people living in the village.

Ströms Vattudal (in the old days also called: Vassdalen) is an extensive water system in the north of Jämtland. Vattudalen reaches from Kvarnbergsvattnet in the north, close to Gäddede by the Norwegian border, to Russfjärden by Strömsund in the south where it runs into Faxälven, close to Ulriksfors. The lake is the 12´th biggest in Sweden with a area of 183 km2.
