Geocache Description:

A remarkable pub lost forever.

We intend this to be one of a series of caches remembering old pubs in Kent, unfortunately now closed.

This was one of the pubs we used to visit and recording its existence was one of the motivations for this series of caches. It was a very small single room pub with tables and benches and an outside loo for which you had to ask for the key. It was very popular with London commuters on the way home from Paddock Wood Station, often playing a game of crib along with their pint of excellent Fremlins bitter served straight from the barrel in the back room.

There was no real bar, just a half stable door and a few narrow shelves behind with crisps, piles of change and cigarettes (Woodbine and Senior Service only) and matches. It is now a house called Little Meadow Cottage.

The coordinates are for the suggested parking, we recommend parking and walking to the pub and then back to the final cache location. It is a pleasant walk on a hard bridleway next to orchards and fields.

Pub location is N 51° 09.894'  E 000° 24.196'.

Opposite the pub - Danger of Death = ABCDEF.

The final cache is at N 51° 09.D(2*A)C' E 000° 24.(E-B)(B-C)E'

The cache originally contains a log book, pen and some pub related trinkets including cards and a darts board. We would be very pleased to receive any extra info re the date of closure or a photo of it when it was a pub.

If anybody would like to expand the Kent Lost Pubs series please do, we would just ask that you let LVT know first so we can keep track of the Pub numbers and names, to avoid duplication. Please avoid pubs that have become restaurants.
