Now the problem we’ve been having is that our caches are too far off the beaten path for most people. If it’s not within a quarter mile of the main road out here, people just don’t find the caches very often. Coupled with the fact that we recently bought a new gpsr and while we were playing around with various new programs, found this stats generator for GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). We were introduced to the concept of Caching Karma. Caching Karma is the ratio of how many times your hides have been found to how many caches you have found. So, if your Karma is greater than 1, you give more than you get. Well our Karma was a lowly 0.37 before we put out this series.
The Caching Karma series was created for entirely selfish reasons. While this series may qualify as an extreme gas saver set of caches and make for a beautiful walk in the woods, particularly in the fall, those are not the reasons for placing these caches. The truth is that we had five lock-n-locks lying around, along with a ready made cache from JimsJems (door prize at the trail-clearing event). We decided to camo up the lock-n-locks and get them all out in “them thar woods”.
Now these six caches fill in the gaps between Songo River View (GC1EWQ9) and Picnic at the ‘Shoe (GC14098) and go a bit further on these trails. This area is great for walking in the woods (with or without dogs) and mountain biking (for those of us who enjoy some relatively flat terrain mixed with our hilly single track). The first parking coordinates (N 43° 55.569 W 070° 34.657) are roughly in the center of the eight caches we have placed on these trails. Alternate parking coordinates (N 43° 55.170 W 070° 34.962 / N 43° 55.422 W 070° 34.965) are for parking towards the end of the series, or if you’d just like to do a few of the caches. But really, we’d like you to do them all. That way you get more finds and we get to feel good about giving back. We all win!!
This is the ready made cache prepared by JimsJems and won as a door prize at the ALT trail work day event. The cache is located off the trail about 20-30 feet in a small camoed container. (Note: The bunnies made off with the camo'd container during the winter of '08-'09 so the cache container has been replaced with a more standard model)
