Geocache Description:

A short walk to the remains of an old mill

We noticed yesterday barbed wire has appeared across the stile at our previously suggested parking. We checked today and there is a note saying that the permissive pathway was withdrawn in 2008. We are disabling the cache until we work out where an alternative route to the mill is.

Be careful with children near the mill area - there is a steep drop into water where the mill wheel was.

If you look into the corner of the field from the cache you will see a wooden gate - if you walk that way you will see the weir (or sluice) for the mill.

There had possibly been a mill on this site since about 1300, originally called Petherton Mill, and later called Petherton Bridge Mill. The Shore family held the mill in 1759, and it was possibly called Shore's Mill then. But in 1809, there was trouble with the water supply when nearby Joylers Mill penned up the water, and Petherton Bridge Mill was eventually abandoned at the end of the 19th century. All that remains today are the channels for the water wheels.

When placed contained - Whistle/torch for FTF, beads, scooby face, magnetic clip, scented candle, American commemorative coin, pictures of V-Dubs (of course!), fruit rubber, mini highlighter and we have put in two trackables that we currently have as well!
